COASTAL BOATS
After the unfortunate liquidation of Burgashell, ESRS had the opportunity to buy the moulds from the receiver and with a few tried and tested modifications and additions, are now developing a new line of coastal/training boats. These boats have moved the goal posts in the manufacturing standards and design of coastal/training boats.
The coastal/training boats are being built by our very experienced boat builders using high strength carbon fabrics and resin similar to that which bond F1 cars together. The boats are furthered with the addition of marine grade stainless steel fittings and due to the light fabrics, weight has been decreased by 20% over current boats. The boat also features fully enclosed foot wells which stops approximately 100 gallons of water from entering the boat when fully swamped, giving approximately 100kg-improved buoyancy over current designs. This gives the boat obvious advantages when racing and has major influences over water safety. The boats have been designed with wing riggers, which have advantages including being higher off the water than a conventional rigger, offering less area for waves to catch and as a result less water will enter the boat. The wing rigger also braces across the boat, which means the shoulders can be removed saving over 10 kilos of weight.
Our previous experience as Eton Racing Boats in providing tough, long lived fine boats has translated well, and our coastal/training boats have defied their critics by surviving the toughest conditions and being very fast.

At ESRS we are still carrying out modifications suggested in feedback, including:
- Longer footwells for taller people
- Upgraded extra large self bailers to remove even more water
- Altered mouldings around wing riggers to suit where the wing rigger is recessed into the sax board
- Thicker top lip of the boat to prevent trailer wear
 Coastal Four / Quad
The boat encompasses the following:
- Tough gel-coat double skin, composed of tough outer laminated GFRP and Carbon, vacuum formed closed cell foam and inner surface of performance composite
- Tough outer skin provides resistance to knocks and bumps and double skin construction provides 'finger push' stiffness over the hull
- Wing rigger
- Marine grade stainless steel fittings
- Enclosed footwell to increase buoyancy
- 11" wooden double-action seats
- Flexifeet or ESRS Shoes
- Enclosed footwells
- Double self bailer at cox's position to drain any water taken on board
- Closed cell foam 1" cushion on cox's seat
- Fully detachable steering
Price for 4+ inclusive of 4 rowing wing riggers = £7,800 ex. VAT
Price for 4x inclusive of 4 sculling wing riggers = £8,660 ex. VAT
Please note that backstays for sculling wing riggers are extra.
We also make:
- Coastal/training Pair / Double
- Coastal/training Single
Both of these boats will include:
- Tough gel-coat double skin, composed of tough outer laminated GFRP and Carbon, vacuum formed closed cell foam and inner surface of performance composite.
- Tough outer skin provides resistance to knocks and bumps and double skin construction provides 'finger push' stiffness over the hull.
- 11" wooden double-action seats (Pair/Double) or 9" wooden double-action seat (Single)
- Flexifeet
- Wing riggers
- Marine stainless steel fittings
Price for 2- inclusive of 2 rowing wing riggers = £4,480 ex. VAT
Price for 2x inclusive of 2 sculling wing riggers = £4,910 ex. VAT
Price for 1x inclusive of 1 sculling wing rigger = £2,360 ex. VAT
Please note that backstays for sculling wing riggers are extra.
These boats are considerably lighter than wooden ones, and require no annual maintenance to keep you on the water. The boats are very useful for new athletes to the sport as they provide a stable learning environment to enhance technique and increase confidence. Whether used for pleasure or all-out racing, these boats will provide the performance, and the long life and toughness that you would expect from ES Rowing Services.
